In 1979, Reggie Williams became choirmaster together with Cynthia Wentzel, the choir’s accompanist while Charles Anyster left to continue his musical studies.
When Jean got married, the junior choir discontinued. Subsequently some juniors were incorporated into the church choir in the 1990’s, then again under the original leadership.
There were several more changes in leadership between 1996 and 2007 when Ms. Jean Bailie led the choir briefly and subsequently the late Eddie Moses. Since 2007 Charles again has been at the helm until the present day.
Singing good choral music well has always been the aim of the choir which has been an affiliate of the Royal School of Church Music whose motto is “Psalm spirit et mentee.” Choir members have attended the summer schools run by the Royal School of Church Music (RSCM) at the various centers in South Africa. The choir still takes part in the “Voice for Life” courses of the RSCM.
All our rehearsals are started with the choristers’ prayer and concluded with the Gloria Patri. God is our refuge and strength and in Him we trust so that we shall not be moved from the righteous path He has set for us.
We give thanks to God for all the organists that had and are providing music at All Saints Church Belhar, i.e.
Cynthia Wentzel, Laetitia Burgess, Jean Bailie (De Bruyn), late Eddie Moses, Valencia Anyster, Martin Phillips, Celeste Mullins, Charles Anyster
